September – So Soon?

What do you mean it is September? Summer just got started!  Or at least that is how it feels.  Winter seems to drag on and on but summer flies by so quickly and we are back at the beginning of the school year and the end of the Summer activities. School is back in session and despite being the 9th month of the year it is really the beginning of a program year for most of us.

It seems to me that this is the time we should make our new years resolutions – because this is the time we usually make adjustments (even as the networks change the TV lineup each fall) of what our schedule will be like for the next year.  If we resolve to be more regular in worship or to attend the prayer group or bible study, to assist with an outreach ministry to the larger community, sing in the choir, or  inviting friends, family, neighbors and coworkers to join us in worship education and outreach (or whatever YOUR resolution) it is more likely to happen NOW than if we wait to make those resolutions in January after we are already established in a familiar schedule and pattern of activity.

So while the stores are putting out Halloween candy and the first Christmas decorations let us get a jump on New Year and decide what it is we can make a priority in our life of faith – and get it on the calendar.  Welcome to September, to a new program year and to a new level of activity as members of the body of Christ.
